CANtrade™ Expands to Peterborough and Renfrew

More Rural Eastern Ontario Businesses will Benefit from Strategic Financing

After launching locally in Northumberland last month, the CANtrade™ initiative has already expanded to Peterborough and Renfrew. Both Community Futures Development Corporations are now offering CANtrade™ terms to rural businesses in their communities. CANtrade™ will support established companies that are seeking capital to stabilize and grow through current economic and trade uncertainties.

“This is about local Community Futures organizations working collaboratively and responding in a dynamic manner. We’re committed to backing local ventures whose leadership see new opportunities and pathways for business growth at this critical moment,” said Wendy Curtis, CEO of Nventure.

CANtrade™ expansion was announced at the Community Futures Peterborough Annual General Meeting last week in Keene, Ontario, by Executive Director, Devon Girard. “We’re thrilled to partner with Northumberland Community Futures,” Girard said, as quoted in a special article in Kawartha Now. “One of the benefits of clients working within the Community Futures network is how close those relationships are and the mutual respect we have for one another. We all want area businesses to succeed and when one organization develops a good idea, we’re always happy to share within the Community Futures network.”

“Our local businesses are resourceful and resilient, and this new fund gives them one more way to act boldly in uncertain times,” said Cyndy Phillips, Executive Director of Renfrew County Community Futures. Phillips also announced CANtrade™ expansion into her community last week. “We’re excited to […] continue backing the people and businesses who power our regional economy.”

In addition to other timely alternative financing options being offered by organizations like BDC, at amounts from $5,000 to $150,000 CANtrade™ establishes an accessible and affordable financial foothold for rural businesses along a broader continuum. “CANtrade™ can help unlock opportunities at the local, regional, inter-provincial or even global level,” explains Nventure Finance lead, Kim Botrie. “That’s why we’re offering special rates and flexible, open terms through October 31, 2025 as a limited time offer to qualifying ventures.”

“SMEs are investing in opportunity while managing risk,” said Wendy Curtis. “Their vision and determination is what will build Canada’s economic future and we want to contribute to that effort by forward investment in our communities. Working with our colleagues in Eastern Ontario helps build momentum and even greater impact through the Community Futures Program.”
