Policetech Accelerator Pilot Program

Providing access for Start-Ups and SMEs to test and validate their innovative technologies in a controlled small-town, real-world, pilot-scale environment.

How it Works

The V13 Policetech Accelerator Pilot Program provides access for Start-Ups and SMEs to test and validate their innovative technologies in a controlled small-town real-world pilot-scale environment. NCFDC and the Cobourg Police Service founded the Accelerator as a scalable test bed that provides policetech entrepreneurs with valuable and translatable data.

Our intent is to discover and assess bold new ideas at the transformative frontier of smart policing and community safety innovation, and help advance those concepts on their pathway to commercialization through iterative testing and validation.

Applicants who have submitted an Expression of Interest may be invited to demonstrate their technologies/solutions to the Innovation Platoon (in person or virtually) to obtain final approval for a pilot. If the technology is initially approved, terms of the pilot will then be negotiated with the company in order to ensure mutual agreement on the specific timeframe for the pilot, as well as milestones and success metrics.

    • Direct feedback from Innovation Platoon, Cobourg Police Service officers.

    • Testing and validation in simulated or real-world scenarios

    • Industry connectivity and assistance with go-to-market strategy

    • Potential investment opportunities through Nventure's investment fund

    • Perks from our innovation partners, including TELUS and IBM, including development kits, cloud-computing credits and more.

    • Marketing and promotional top-spin.

  • Eligible applicants under the Pilot Program must:

    • Be a for-profit venture in the early commercialization or growth stage, incorporated in Canada, and normally having been in operations for more than one year with at least 1 FTE.

    • Have a novel, innovative and technology-driven solution to an unsolved problem in policing.

    • Normally be at Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 6-7

  • The V13 Policetech Accelerator is a joint initiative of Nventure and the Cobourg Police Service at Venture13 innovation centre in Cobourg, Ontario, Canada.

The V13 Policetech Accelerator will offer a limited number of spaces to applicants.

Applicants may be pre-qualified based on a competitive intake process (e.g. Pitch to the Chief™, strategy sprints, hackathons, etc.) or through evaluation of a project proposal/Expression of Interest.

Selected applicants will be invited to participate in the full accelerator program via a Letter of Offer or Letter of Support with additional terms and conditions included by agreement.

The V13 Policetech Accelerator makes no promise or guarantee to provide any contribution in any amount (cash or in-kind) to applicants or participants in accelerator programming.

All decisions are final and made in the absolute, sole and unfettered discretion of the Founding Partners: The Cobourg Police Service and Nventure.

Participants retain ownership to their own background IP.

The V13 Policetech Accelerator reserves the right to publicly identify individuals or organizations receiving support via this initiative, normally including but not limited to: first name, last name, organization or business name and a short one sentence description of organization or business or the innovative application or solution. All applications are subject to Nventure's published Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.

Additional terms and conditions may apply.

  • As a result of the dedicated support provided by our Founding Partner, the Cobourg Police Service, project participants understand and agree that the CPS will be granted a time-limited option to be the first police force in Canada to deploy any technologies developed with the V13 Policetech Accelerator.

First Right of Deployment demonstration projects allow participating companies to generate data and utilize the results of real-world application of their technology as evidence of market validation. This is expected to contribute to the potential for follow-on sales and business growth while also reinforcing the position of the Cobourg Police Service as a leader at the forefront of policetech innovation.
