Policetech Tested™

Tested By Police - For Police™

About the Certification

The Policetech Tested Badge™ is a certification granted by the V13 Policetech Accelerator to products and technologies that have undergone rigorous testing and evaluation by law enforcement professionals. The Policetech Accelerator supports high-potential entrepreneurs, intrapreneurs, and innovators by facilitating direct structured interactions with front-line personnel. By making it possible to obtain critical end-user data and feedback during the development process, we can help to ensure product-market fit prior to commercialization.

The Policetech Tested™ Badge instills confidence that a product or service has been tested in the field by police officers and has met specific criteria associated with Applicability, Functionality, Durability and Quality. Participating companies will work collaboratively with the V13 Policetech Accelerator (and first responder partners) in a field environment to test and validate technologies in real-world scenarios.

  • Generally, a project team is formed for each test (made up of uniformed or civilian staff or both, as may be required). This team will provide and coordinate end users suitable for testing the product. The company will train the pilot team under the supervision of V13 Policetech Accelerator staff. The technology will then be tested by the team and monitored for established performance standards under careful and responsible conditions.

  • Upon completion of the deliverables of the project, a review of the product will be performed to ensure that it performs to the expectations of the end users – this is completed through use of an end-user questionnaire that examines product Durability, Quality, Functionality, and Applicability. Only products that obtain at minimum an average of 4 out of 5 on the assessment scale will be eligible to receive the Policetech Tested™ Badge. The company can then utilize this badge for purposes of marketing the specific product that was tested in accordance with the outlines specified by the V13 Policetech Accelerator.

The Policetech Tested™ Badge provides a level of assurance to police services that these technologies from start-ups and SMEs have been tested in a real-world environment and performed to a high level.

  • Who conducts the testing for the Policetech Tested™ Badge?

The testing is conducted by experienced law enforcement officers and industry experts who assess each product's performance under real-world or simulated environmental conditions. The evaluation process includes a comprehensive analysis of the product's functionality, durability, and impact on police work.

How does a product qualify for the Policetech Tested™ Badge?

To qualify for the Policetech Tested™ Badge, a product must first be accepted into the V13 Policetech Accelerator program and go through Pilot Stream testing. It must then pass a series of tests and assessments designed to simulate the challenging environments and situations that police officers encounter daily. Only products that demonstrate exceptional performance and reliability are awarded the badge.

What are the benefits of the Policetech Tested™ Badge for manufacturers?

For manufacturers, earning the Policetech Tested™ Badge provides a competitive edge in the marketplace. It serves as a mark of credibility and trust, demonstrating that their product has been vetted and approved by law enforcement professionals. This can lead to increased interest and adoption by police departments and other public safety agencies.

The Policetech Tested™ Badge is backed by a rigorous testing process and the expertise of seasoned law enforcement professionals. The V13 Policetech Accelerator ensures only products that meet stringent criteria for quality, safety, and effectiveness are awarded the badge, making it a trusted symbol for police departments and agencies.

What type of products can be awarded the Policetech Tested™ Badge?

Products from a wide range of categories can receive the Policetech Tested™ Badge. The key requirement is that the product must be relevant to police operations and demonstrate exceptional performance in its category during the Pilot Stream testing.

How can a company apply for the Policetech Tested™ Badge?

Companies interested in applying for the Policetech Tested™ Badge can start by submitting their product for consideration to the V13 Policetech Accelerator using the application form found here. This will determine if there are pilot opportunities available for their technology field of use. The application process includes providing detailed information about the product, followed by an internal review and assessment of the technology, a technology pairing phase and testing & evaluation phase.

What happens if a product does not pass the testing process?

If a product does not pass the testing process, the V13 Policetech Accelerator provides feedback to the manufacturer, outlining the areas where the product did not meet the required standards. The manufacturer may choose to improve the product and reapply for testing at a later date through the Pilot Stream program.

If my product is granted the Policetech Tested™ Badge, what is the length of certification?

The Policetech Tested™ Badge is awarded under a non-exclusive licensing agreement which outlines the terms and conditions of its use.  The term of use depends on a number of factors including: type of technology (i.e. hardware/software/etc.), modifications made to the technology, field of use, etc.

How does the Policetech Tested™ Badge impact purchasing decisions by law enforcement agencies?

The Policetech Tested™ Badge provides law enforcement agencies with a reliable benchmark when evaluating new products. It helps them make informed purchasing decisions by identifying products that have been thoroughly tested and proven to meet the demands of police work.

  • Applicability

First, the project team will confirm if the product is a novel solution to an unsolved problem. Is it a significant leap forward, an improvement on the status quo addressing an actual need or “pain point”? If applied, would it create value, improve performance, find efficiencies/cost savings, or otherwise contribute to community safety and overall operational resilience of the police service?

  • Functionality

After receiving training, the project team will use the product and assess over time whether the functional claims made by the company are accurate. Assessments will be documented and include helpful observations for future product mapping.

  • Durability

Assessment of durability includes evaluation of the impact of daily wear/use and/or stress testing in an operational environment. Software solutions will be assessed for reliability over time and how platforms handle real-world enterprise requirements.

  • Quality

Technologies are always pre-assessed based on the parameters defined by the intended solution. Specific performance metrics are then determined and measured through field testing. A qualitative assessment of overall performance will include any recommendations for improvement made by the pilot team.
